ITU Releases Latest Global ICT Pricing and Penetration Data
New figures released today by ITU show that information and communication technology (ICT) uptake continues to accelerate worldwide, spurred by a steady fall in the price of telephone and broadband Internet services. The new data, released in ITU’s flagship annual ICT report ‘Measuring the Information Society 2011’, rank the Republic of Korea as the world’s most advanced ICT economy, followed by Sweden, Iceland, Denmark and Finland.

Vodafone Foundation Smart Accessibility Awards
The Vodafone Foundation Smart Accessibility Awards is a new contest to promote the development of IT applications designed to improve the lives of those with disabilities and people that are older, to help them get more actively involved in society. The programme is supported and co-organized by AGE Platform Europe, the European network of around 160 organisations of and for people aged 50+, and the European Disability Forum (EDF), the NGO that represents the interests of 80 million Europeans with disabilities.

Malaysia: MCC Calls for a Better Barrier-free Environment for Malaysians with Disabilities
Methodist Care Centre (MCC) has sent a letter to the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) calling for the creation of a disabled-friendly and barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities. MCC chairman Kapitan Wong Hie Ching told a press conference that inaccessibility to buildings and public facilities has been a major barrier for people with disabilities to actively participate in social and economic activities.

mHealth: Smartphone Apps Pave the Future of Health Care
